The village derives its name from the old church of Sant'Alessio with the addition Siculo to distinguish it from two other homonymous communes which are in province of Pavia and Reggio Calabria. The village was developing along the coast that goes from Capo Sant'Alessio (defined by Greek Argennon akron, that is silver cape) and on its eastern top rose a medieval castle, to swollen stream of Agrò. From 1452 to 1717 it was property of De Angelicas, Romano Colonnas, Furnaros, and Paternò Castellos. Once a fishermen village, S. Alessio Siculo has now become one of the most appreciated tourist resorts of the Taormina coast, and it is a perfect starting point for excursions and tours through Sicily.
