Small village of Roman origins, some ruins of this ancient civilisation still remain. Its name comes from a colony of ‘Marsi', ancient population native of ‘Marsica', an area in Abruzzo. These people came down to the Agri Valley, looking for a place where to settle. Marsico became a county in the year 1000 and then a fief under several lords. It has a scenic position. Three smaller villages are also part of it: ‘Villa d'Agri', with well-developed trading activities, ‘Barricelle' and ‘Galaino', with small farming activities. In the village there is the Main Church of the SS. Pietro e Paolo, with a wooden sculpture of the XIV century, representing the ‘Madonna col Bambino', two stone lions supporting a stoup of the XVI century and some canvases of Neapolitan school of the XVIII century. In the old part of the village are several palaces, such as ‘Palazzo Piccininni', with a stone portal and an arcaded loggia.
