Right outside Venice there's a whole world do discover! Starting from Mestre, just on the other side of the bridge connecting Venice to the mainland, and going a little further, everywhere one can find churches, ancient fortresses, beautiful squares enlived by markets and fairs. Going back into the past, one can follow the ancient routes built by the Romans, who left an indelible sign on the countryside, with the typical Roman grid characterising the area of the Decumano. Don’t miss the Brenta Riviera: The spread of the aristocratic villas along the course of the Brenta from Malcontenta to Stra was a phenomenon that was a sign of the power of Venice for a couple of centuries between 1500 and 1700. Treviso itself, distant only 20 kilometres from Venice is jewel not to be missed: Treviso is capital of the Veneto area also known as the "Marca trevigiana", the picturesque area comprised of castles, rivers, hills and vineyards which produce wines of incomparable quality. You can also “use” these areas as comfortable starting point to visit Venice Itself, using the easy bus and train connections to the Venice lagoon.
