Treviso is capital of the Veneto area also known as the "Marca trevigiana", the pictoresque area comprised of castles, rivers, hills and vineyards which produce wines of incomparable quality. It's historic old town has a decidedly medieval character, shot through with a thousand canals and waterways. A host of shaded gardens and noble palazzos grace the porticoed sidewalks which line the city's watery avenues. It is no surprise that Treviso has come to be known as a "cittą sull'acqua", a city with an impenetrable, understated allure.
