A little jewel on Lake Maggiore, with an old historical centre which is a traditionally connected to the Longobard King Desiderio, who is supposed to have purifield a Pagan temple there, dedicated to Jove, converting it into a Christian Church. From the 12th century, the village was a demain of the Visconti family, as shown by the Visconti Castle, for a long time country mansion of the Visconti family, now almost abandoned. There are also other important monuments: the Romanic church of St. Michael, with the beautiful leaning bell tower with 15th century frescoes inside; the Parish church, also with 15th century frescoes; the Benedictine Sanctuary on mount S. Salvatore, with an interesting architectural complex of cells and apses in a good state of repair. Thanks to the rich and almost untouched vegetation surrounding the hamlet, you can enjoy long walks and rides along the old paths on the hills. Tourist Information
