Barletta The Historic Center of Barletta, in the "marine quarter" with nice churches, palaces and other monuments, excellently preserves its medieval aspect and is not contaminated by modern constructions. The Dome is one of the most eminent examples of the Romanesque style in Apulia with subsequent Gothic extensions, especially in the apse and bays: worthy of being seen are above all the Bell-tower and the High Altar with a valuable veil on the top. The Castle is also impressive; it was built by Frederick the Second on an existing Norman stronghold and subsequently widened by Charles the Fifth.
