It was an ancient medieval village, built and widened in the 11th century at the foot of Cattani castle. The territory of this county lies between the valley of river Sieve, the Appennine mountain chain and the mountains of Calvana, that means 133,82 square kilometers; it includes, besides the chief town, the municipality of Cavallina, Galliano and Montecarelli and has got more than 9.000 inhabitants. It lies about 34 km away from Florence. The centre, witness to the long history of the village, is surrounded by a beautiful landscape rich in natural and historical-artistic treasures: woods, streams, parish country churches, small villages and villas.
