Calabria is a land of striking contrasts, characterised by hundreds of kilometres of much-varied coast, imposing mountains which have snow for many months, gorges and dense woods and beautiful towns perched on rocky ridges. There are several historical structures and monuments, much local arts and crafts, picturesque folklore and exquisite local cuisine, especially the fish-based meals, for which the Calabrian sea is famous.
