Sicily - Piazza Armerina - Country Inn

In the heart of a large landed estate of over 300 hectares, at the top of a hill looking down onto all of Eastern Sicily, you will find the "Gigliotto" Farm Guest House, a place of unbeatable charm for discovering the tastes, smells and colours of a Sicily of the remote past. The parts of Sicily famous for their mythology and art are just a few kilometres away from the Farm Guest House. The position in the heart of this Land of Sun makes it the perfect starting point for trips to Taormina, Agrigento, Siracusa, Palermo, Piazza Armerina, with its famous Roman Country Villa, Morgantina, with its Greek theatre, Caltagirone, with its majolica wares, and so much more.

In this ancient estate from the Fourteenth-Century with its characteristic Sicilian home, the Savoca family has restructured a monastery for tourist guests, with 15 warm and welcoming rooms furnished with Sicilian furniture. All the rooms have their own bathroom and terracotta flooring. The restructuring was based on traditional architecture in which arches, squares, old stone girders and walls recreate the warm atmospheres of a distant past.

There is a large room (400 square metres) for enjoying traditional Sicilian cuisine, which uses the oil produced in the farm's own oil press. You can also try the wine produced here using black grapes grown in low-yield vine groves and then handpicked. All the produce comes from 100% biological cultivations. Breakfast is simple but has been prepared with care.

The services on offer here have something for everyone: swimming pool, agri-cycling, horse riding, trekking (on horseback or on foot), lake fishing, hunting, meeting and conference rooms, a guided tour of the local agricultural activities, traditional Sicilian cuisine courses, a guide on the preparation of sweet jams prepared following traditional country recipes and so on.

The farm owners provide their guests with 100% biological produce such as wine, oil, honey, homemade liquors, prickly pears, fresh and dried fruit and various kinds of vegetables.

In the distant past, the Ganzeria area was a huge landed estate. In 1926, it belonged to a certain Guglielmo Padula. Under the Aragonese, it passed to the Gravina family who, over time, sold off certain parts of the estate. In 1974, Michele Gravina sold Gigliotto to Silvio Bonanno. After that, the landed estate stayed in the hands of the Bonanno family, last of all, Francesco Paolo Bonanno, Prince of Linguaglossa and Baron of Gigliotto. In 1990, the estate was purchased by the Savoca family who restructured it without changing the original architecture. Since 1999, the Savoca family has been using Gigliotto as a Farm Guest House.

Tradition, hospitality, charm, all mod cons, lovely tastes and smells, culture and a nice environment: all this is waiting for you at "Gigliotto"
