REVIEW: Venere Azzurra review We are a family of five with three young children and we got a suite with two adjoining bedrooms on the top floor. The stairs for the 3rd floor were easy enough and in a positive light assisted to burn off a few calories at the start and finish of each day. An elevator exists that allows for the handling of luggage from outside the lobby to the top floor which was much appreciated. If not for the rule to hand in the key every time away from the premise one could theoretically use the elevator however we never day during our three day stay. The rooms were spacious enough and clean with excellent remote controlled AC in each. Both accessed not a private balcony but a rooftop terrace one that was huge -as big as the whole building- and provided the best view of the whole area. One could see rooftops, mountains and sea in one whole 360 panoramic view. No doubt the best around. The best part about it was that there wasn?t ever anyone up there. Another cool thing was the outdoor terrace shower that could lead to interesting times but we never used. Lawn chairs and elevator access makes this semi-private terrace one of the best assets of any accommodation in the area. The morning complimentary breakfast was typical but good. Short of bacon and eggs it had every food group covered from fruit to cheese to cereal to fresh croissants. The cappuccinos were excellent and quickly delivered to the table. The room was indoors that would have been better outdoors but to suffice we sat at tables directly in front of the big and open balcony doors that provided the breeze and scent of the ocean. Clean setting and courteous staff. Location wise again we think the best around. Not only was it a 10 minute walk to little towns in either direction but the main walking seaside promenade was right outside the hotel. On night this promenade took us to a central square where we took in a free outdoor concert by some band with a female singer apparently famous who played Sting in the intermission - awesome- we sat there and ate pizza we got close by. Just as important to us was the fact we could park our leased vehicle basically outside the hotel on the street with a pass the front desk provides where we left it parked free and safe and within sight for several days. Another huge factor was the beach situated out your front door. Having spent a month in Italy one cannot overstate the ability to attend a clean beach with powder sand close by and all at no cost. This public beach is surround by private beaches something I found out quickly when I sat on a sea wall to rest and was advised it was private. This area in front of the hotel has the beach to both relax and swim in and to the side rocks to explore - the best of both worlds and all free. Also close by was the dock for the boat ferries that will take you to Cinque Terra towns. A word of advice. We tried to visit as many ports as possible on a one day pass and did nothing more than swim in each town beach and maybe because it was 38 degrees we were tired and worn out at the end. Perhaps a better idea is to select a couple of towns and explore more in depth recognizing seeing more places may not be better than seeing more in one or two places. Staff was always courteous and helpful and spoke English. The only semi-issue we had was not a big deal. We were considering staying an extra night because we loved it and paying 220 a night we were hoping to get some sort of last minute deal or customer appreciation discount. Although our suite was available no real discount was offered. Again perhaps just wishful thinking but perhaps something to feel appreciated would have been nice. Nothing to effect score however. Getting there and leaving to and from our next destinations was made easier with GPS making navigation through some of the one way streets a little easier. On that topic there are Traffic Restricted Zones just like the ones you see in Florence and basically in every city. Just confirm with the front desk that they will contact local authorities and report your vehicle description and license plate to avoid getting souvenir fines in the mail long after you have arrived home which i have my fingers crossed to avoid. I'm hoping the system of reporting works. I don?t need to add to our huge one month cross Italy tour of 2011 bill. I would recommend this hotel especially if one could spend less than what we spent to stay there. Good Luck Marcel and family
