Poggio al Sole lies in the midst of the magnificent scenario of the Florentine hillsides, and leans over the Mugnone valley. It rests on a 450 m hill, 6 kilometers from Fiesole in a locality called Torre di Buiano, along the province road [#] 54, called "dei Bosconi". We left the original country features of the two buildings that constitute the farm; luckily both the farmhouse and the barn were kept unchanged until nowadays. Olive and cherry groves, and vines surround the old farmhouse and the stone barn. The name recalls the sunny position that Poggio al Sole enjoys from dawn to sunset, in winter as in summer.
Three large double rooms are set in the barn, which was left stone rough. The rooms have been given flower names: Broom, Iris, and Jasmine, and they all have private bathrooms and heating, though the remodelling kept the purest Tuscan style in the rough beams, in the brick floors, the solid wood doors, windows, and furniture. The ancient loggia, formerly used to keep the tools, now serves as an entrance to the rooms and common hall, but is at the same time a genuine panoramic balcony over the valley and the land, planted with vines, olive and fruit trees.
On the front, a large threshing floor shaded by a century-old oak tree, which the local farmers used to call Chioppone, and other trees, which guarantee coolness in the summer. The first floor of the farmhouse hosts the family's apartment and Alba (Dawn), and Tramonto (Sunset), two large double rooms for the guests, both with private bathroom and heating, and both with a breathtaking view of the valley. On the ground floor there are the kitchen, the dining room with fireplace, and other service rooms. In the basement, the old cellar has been transformed into a wine and food tasting room and shop, where the farm produces can be tasted and bought.
Poggio al Sole is a small family-run farm and rural B&B, a special place from which you can reach Florence, Fiesole, and the other artistic towns in Tuscany Poggio al Sole is a charming location for its interesting position, far from the city, but close to the most interesting places in the region. From the road, at night, you can see the lights of Florence, a glittering spray of precious gems set by an eccentric artist in "the most moving landscape in the world", as a well-known anthropologist once said.
Guests are welcome in a warm and friendly way, and tranquillity and great care are guaranteed. The typical produces and the Tuscan cooking cheer our dinner tables every night. On request, wine tours to farms producing Chianti Rufina and Chianti Colli Fiorentini along the "Wine Roads" can be organized: they include the visit of the cellars, wine and typical produce tasting.
Until 2003, Poggio al Sole will be under the process of becoming an organic farm. Its main produces are extra-virgin olive oil and saffron. With the fruit produced in the farm (cherries, apricots, figs, pears, plums, walnuts and sorb apples) jams and natural liquors are prepared and offered to the guests that have dinner with us. We are planting other fruit and olive trees to increase the production. We put particular care in the growing of saffron, of which we have become promoters for its reintroduction in the Florentine area, in order to obtain the appellation contrôlée. The stigmas are handpicked one by one at the harvesting time, which the whole family performs every day between October and November; then they are dried very slowly and packed in 0,10 grams packages. The powder is 100[[[]]%[]] natural, with no preservative or food coloring.

Poggio al sole is the ideal location for a totally relaxing holiday, but also as starting point for the many destinations that the area offers. Florence alone, which is just a few kilometres away, and can be reached by bus, offers a great art-and-culture-centred holiday: the other main Tuscan cities are not further than 50/60 minutes by bus or car. The Fiesole area is full of beautiful villas dating back to the Renaissance period, and now summer residences to well-off families who chose them because of the climate (much cooler than in the city) and the proximity to Florence.
All around it, cypress trees wave their supple tops, giving the landscape that unmistakable balance between humankind and nature, for which Tuscany is famous all over the world.
