| A bed and breakfast with old tradition in the Marche region, Italy |
At the beginning of the 1900 the building - part of what it now a B&B - was an inn and many famous guests stopped here because of the excellent cooking and the warm hospitality of the past owners.
It went recently through a complete renovation, still maintaining its old character, and the present owner, who inherited the gift of hospitality from her ancestors, has decided to bring it back to its previous function.
There are now three bedrooms with bathroom and a large hall upstairs where we serve breakfast which includes also local sweets and desserts, prepared with authentic ingredients according to the local tradition.
The small town of Serravalle, where the B&B is located, is at 647 m. above sea level between the regions of Marche and Umbria. The guests can enjoy the beautiful nature and the ideal temperatures, especially in summer evenings.
The nearby woods and highlands offer many opportunities for a relaxing walk; for those who look for more challenges and strenuous hikes there is the park of the Sibillini Mountains close by with a great number of paths and rock climbs.
If you like shopping there are some nice towns: Camerino, Foligno, Matelica and San Severino not far away from the B&B. Here you can also visit museums, beautiful churches and old buildings.
In Serravalle you can admire the City Hall, designed by the architect Nervi, the frescoes by De Magistris in the church of Santa Lucia, the tower and the remains of the fortress built by the Da Varano, the lords of the duchy of Camerino.
Near Serravalle there are the towns of Assisi, Perugia and Visso, the skiing resort of Frontignano, the beautiful plains of Castelluccio for the x-country ski lovers and the Park of the Sibillinis with the blue mountains mentioned by the poet Leopardi.
On request the guests can get the guide for the Roman "botte" and the Da Varano one, the churches of Acquapagana, Madonna del Piano, del Sasso, Plestia which can be visited only by reservation.
Excellent gastronomic specialties are: ciavuscolo (a sort of salami), Easter sweet pizza, Christmas sweet spaghetti, torrone (a kind of dessert), pecorino cheese, lentils and red potatoes, the ideal ingredient for fantastic gnocchi (dumplings) with lamb sauce.
Important religious celebrations are: Good Friday and the suggestive procession with the barefoot and chained Christ, Christmas with the living Nativity. All year around there are numerous festivals and fairs that celebrate the produce, the cooking specialties and the local traditions.
