| Natural products and a multi-ethnic taste in a wonderful country house |
After moving around the world, here we are at last in Italy. Except for short spells, we were abroad for several decades! Francesco left Sicily for Switzerland in 1970, working as a ministry official for the Italian Foreign Office. He later worked in Turkey, Poland, Singapore and Australia. Rosanna left Friuli in 1992 for Sydney where she worked for the Italian Ministry of Education. We met and got married in the shade of the Opera House, and a few years later set off again - this time for Paraguay in South America.
We put our whole hearts into creating the "Airone Country House"; our experience, our interests and passions, our dreams and ideals, warmth and enthusiasm, and a longing to be free in the air like the heron we chose for our mascot. The well-being of our guests is our main objective.
The Airone Country House is the latest restoration of a Marches-region farm-house which dates back centuries. Besides our own home, it consists of 3 rooms each with bathroom, a small independent apartment with bathroom and kitchen area suitable also for the disabled, a fully-equipped restaurant and kitchen and outdoor spaces with a swimming pool, grill, lawns and play area.
Our house is situated at the foot of Monte della Crescia near the town of Osimo, the centre of which is only seven kilometres away, and has splendid 360° views ranging from the surrounding countryside and hills to the Sibillini mountains and Gran Sasso, and further north Montefeltro.The rooms, each decorated in an original and different way, are designed according to the theories of Feng Shui and contain every possible convenience, including bathroom with shower cabin, independent heating/cooling system, fridge, electronic safe and satellite television.
The attractive restaurant has original, multi-ethnic furnishings collected over the years by Francesco and Rosanna from around the world. Even the cooking is a reflection of a wealth of experience: Francesco and Rosanna are both convinced of the goodness of natural products and offer their guests healthy food and organic produce, with dishes that, though influenced by their culinary knowledge of other places and ingredients, still have their roots in "home" cooking "for the family"; fresh seasonal produce picked straight from the organic garden or acquired from local farmers, legumes, meat and fish, a wide variety of colours, flavours and aromas. and a pinch of international imagination.
Although possible alternatives may be arranged, a varied and delicious fixed menu can be enjoyed, from the starter to the dessert and 'digestive' liqueur. And in fine weather there is a large grill and oven outdoors to be used.
